Fishing in Allumeria
Rods, bait, and the minigame that puts dinner on your plate.
Fishing arrived in Allumeria with version 0.11, adding a dedicated minigame, three rod tiers, and seventeen unique fish species. The Cooking Station then turns your catch into restaurable meals. This guide covers rod progression, bait types, the timing-based catch minigame, and how cooking transforms a common Walleye into a useful buff. Pair it with the crafting guide for station recipes and the progression checklist so you do not abandon a Forest Key run for a trophy fish.
Fishing rods
Allumeria currently offers three fishing rod tiers, each crafted at a Workbench:
Basic Fishing Rod — Entry-level, built from Planks. Sufficient for your first sessions. Crafts from 3 Planks and 2 Flint.
Sturdy Fishing Rod — The reliable mid-game option. Requires the Basic Rod as a component plus Iron Ingots. Unlocks access to deeper waters and rarer species.
Obsidian Fishing Rod — Top tier. Uses the Sturdy Rod plus Palladium Ingots, making it a late-game craft. Targets the rarest fish in the deepest biomes.
Upgrade rods when you hit a catch ceiling. A Basic Rod will not land a Crystalfin, and a Sturdy Rod struggles in palladium waters.
The fishing minigame
Open your inventory, select the rod, then right-click on any water source. A bobber lands and the minigame begins. The core mechanic is keeping a marker inside a shrinking circle. Hold left or right mouse button to move the marker toward the centre. Letting it drift to the edge or rushing it too fast both lose fish. Steam community threads confirm this was the unintuitive part for many new fishers: the buttons control lateral movement, not reeling.
When the marker stays centred long enough, you land the catch. Different fish have different patience windows. Bottom-dwelling species such as Catfish hold the circle smaller and shorter. Open-water fish such as Walleye give more generous timing.
Fish species and where to find them
Version 0.11 documents seventeen unique fish. Key species and their habitats:
Walleye — Common in forest lakes and rivers. Your first target. Coat it at the Cooking Station for a basic stamina restore.
Catfish — Bottom-dweller in deeper forest water. Smaller circle, shorter patience. Better cooked.
Crystalfin — Found in cold underground lakes, especially near snow biome water. Requires the Sturdy Rod minimum. The cooking bonus is significant.
Gilded Brim — Gold-tier biome fish, uncommon. Surface spawns near gold ore underwater.
Fish rarity increases with rod tier and biome depth. Do not expect Crystalfin on a Basic Rod in a surface pond.
Cooking your catch
Place a Cooking Station (crafted from Stone and a Workbench component) and right-click it with raw fish. The station produces cooked fillets with different effects depending on species. Generic cooked fish restore a flat amount of hunger or stamina. Rare species addbuffs such as temporary water breathing or cold resistance.
Cook in bulk during a good fishing session. Fish spoils slowly in inventory, but cooked fillets keep indefinitely.
Tips and common mistakes
Switch to a larger rod before entering snow or desert water. A Basic Rod in a frozen lake wastes your time. Carry spare bait if the game uses consumeable bait (some rod tiers may consume bait per cast; check the Workbench recipe).
Fishing pairs well with a Mining session. Both happen near water in caves. The biomes guide has specific notes on underwater caves, Scuba Helmet use, and where underground lakes spawn. Do not bring a fishing rod to the Forest Dungeon; there are no water blocks inside the dungeon rooms.
If the minigame feels frustrating at first, practice on a forest pond in daylight. Calm water is more forgiving than rapid currents. Once the marker control feels natural, upgrade your rod and push into deeper biomes.
The crafting guide covers the Cooking Station recipe. The progression checklist does not include fishing as a gate for any major milestone, but a cooked Crystalfin fillet makes the Snow Spirit fight noticeably easier if you need cold resistance.
