Allumeria Review
A solo voxel sandbox with Terraria pacing and Minecraft hands.
Allumeria is a first-person voxel sandbox that wants you to build like Minecraft and progress like Terraria. Infinimelon (Unobtainable Melon / Unomelon) has been iterating in public since the first itch.io drop on 9 February 2025. Steam Early Access began 28 August 2026 at version 0.15, with an introductory discount window on the store. This review is for buyers, not for patch historians; version history lives on the Updates Hub.
What you actually do
You chop trees, smelt ore, pave a hut so night mobs cannot spawn, then raid a biome dungeon and summon a boss. Steam’s own Early Access summary is unusually specific: about five hundred unique items, three bosses, three dungeons, three major biomes, and working loops for building, movement, and combat. That matches what you feel after a weekend: the forest is a full chapter, not a tutorial island you abandon in twenty minutes.
Building is the stand-out. Hold R to reshape blocks. RGB lights and a Paint Roller mean a dirt cube can become a neon stair. Monsters spawn on natural blocks only, so dark interiors are a style choice. Combat starts with swords and crossbows and slides into bombs, shock arrows, boomerangs, shuriken, frying pans, baguettes, and a Fart Gun. The joke weapons are real items, not trailer bait. Rank the serious ones on the weapons tier list after you have copper.
Online co-op is Steam peer-to-peer from the pause menu. Dedicated servers are still future work. If your group needs a 24/7 shard, wait. If you want four friends in one cave tonight, it already works. See multiplayer.
The Microsoft DMCA week
In February 2026 an automated Tracer.AI claim flagged Steam screenshots as Minecraft IP. The store page vanished days before Next Fest. Vintage Story’s Tyron and several Minecraft YouTubers amplified the story. Microsoft withdrew the claim without a counter-notice. The assets were original; the voxel look was the trigger. The episode is why a lot of people heard the name. It is not why the game is good. The game is good because the dungeon-and-boss cadence has teeth.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you miss Hytale-shaped promises and want a small, honest Early Access loop you can finish a chapter of this week. Buy it if block games feel solved and you want stairs without a separate stairs item. Skip it if you need split-screen, a huge mod workshop day one, or a polished 1.0 quest log. NPCs and shops are still growing. Some wiki.gg pages are frozen on 0.8 advice. Trust Steam notes and this wiki’s patch notes over random year-old guides.
Price has hovered around twelve US dollars with a launch discount. System needs are modest in practice; the store GPU line was infamously the developer’s own box. Check system requirements. Linux itch builds existed before Steam. Steam Deck reports are mixed, mostly on controls.
Steam user reviews opened Very Positive on a small sample (about 95 percent of a few dozen). Treat that as “people who wanted this genre got it,” not as a hundred-thousand-review monolith.
How it compares
Versus Minecraft: faster goals, worse encyclopedia, better lighting toys, real bosses with summon recipes. Versus Terraria: 3D space, weaker boss spectacle so far, similar “one biome is a whole gear tier” philosophy. Versus Vintage Story: far less survival-sim grit, far more arcade dungeon. Allumeria is the toybox with a spine.
Start with getting started, then the Forest Dungeon walkthrough and bosses. If the first night feels like every other voxel clone, give it until copper and the first trunk dungeon. That is the moment the game stops being a lookalike and starts being a chapter game.
Official links sit on the links page. This wiki is unofficial. The developer is still one person who answers Steam posts. Buy accordingly: you are funding a live solo sandbox, not a publisher roadmap slide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Allumeria worth buying in Early Access?
Yes if you want a short, dense voxel chapter loop with real building tools. Wait if you need dedicated servers, huge NPC towns, or a finished 1.0.
Is Allumeria just Minecraft?
It uses voxels and first-person mining, but progression is dungeon-and-boss like Terraria. Microsoft’s 2026 claim was withdrawn; assets are original.
Does it have multiplayer?
Online Steam peer-to-peer, yes. No split-screen. Details in the multiplayer guide.
Should I play the demo first?
Yes. The demo is forest-only and worlds carry forward. Compare editions on demo vs full game.
